Amma - The hugging Mother
Submitted by AFAN team member Amaranatho a Buddhist on 17/11/2011 08:26
Yesterday I went to Alexander Palace not to go to the Ice rink but to get a hug from Amma, a Indian spiritual leader. As I sat on the train I was suprised to see a article in the metro about Amma. http://www.metro.co.uk/news/881872-hugging-saint-to-embrace-hundreds-at-... . Its a very siple experience, you queue up for a token, you wait in line, you bend down in front her, you put your head on her shoulder and she hugs you. Whilst I was ther, she must of hugged at least a thousand people, and probably over her life time millions. I've heard in Indian some of her session called Darsha, can get 50,000 people. She travels with 100 people, inlcuding support staff and musicians.
You can also offer to do service and whilst I was chopping vegetables, I heard on a speaker sting, thinking it was a bit strange to here that type of music I thought it was the radio. Only to be told sting was up stairs in the main hall playing live! Amma has one countless awards for social work and includes giving a million dollars to Hurricane Katrina fund, built thousands of house, hospitals, and recently went to Japan to give aid and support people. You can find out more about her and the work she does at http://www.amma.org.uk/
