Christmas Eve 1968...The first Apollo mission to orbit the moon. Why did the astronauts choose the opening words of Genesis for their special Christmas Eve broadcast? Who chose it?

 It is said that the Apollo 8 "earthrise" photograph sparked the birth of the "green movement" - it was now, 24 December 1968, that the earth seemed so small, so fragile...
