"Ahimsa" is the Sanskrit term for 'non-violence' and forms the basis of Hindu teachings on morality. It teaches that all living beings, especially humanbeings are the clearest manifestation of the spirit. The universe is called "Shrishti" or a projection of the Spirit, and encapsulates the idea that all animate as well as inanimate things are special and must be treated with reverence, as everything is a manifesation of the Spirit.
