A short clip re-enacting the research originally carried out by psychologist Walter Mischel (Stanford) in the 60s...

A group of four year olds were each given one marshmallow and promised a second only if they waited 20 minutes before eating it.

Some could, and some couldn't wait - in summary, Mischel and his collaborators found that those who waited generally tended to be better adjusted, dependable and, on some measures, more successful than those who could not delay gratification.

Are you convinced?

What can we learn from this experiment? What does it tell us about human nature... How long do think you would have lasted as a 4 year old?
