Since ancient times Hindus have accomodated gay people in its society. These people were not persecuted. The theory of reincarnation offers an interesting insight into the whole phenomenon. It suggests that the soul is without a gender. Gender is acquired through the bodies a soul inhabits. This produces mental traits (male or female) which become the character of the individual and comes with the individual. If for any reason a male over many lives is born in a female body, he will feel attracted to the female becasue that is his mental trait. Quite often we find cases of homosexuals who claim that they are trapped in the wrong body and would undergo painful operation to correct that. Hindus consider Gay people to be as spiritual as hetrosexual people, and are not condemaned to end up in hell.
