A Glimpse on Projects and Activities Funded by Sewa International (UK) for the Victims of the Gujara

For the Gujarat Earthquake Appeal the Total fund collected by Sewa International (UK) was £2.5 million pounds which was used to provide the following relief and rehabilitation projects in the Kutch area of Gujarat:

  • Sewa International (UK) sent funds to help run a makeshift Hospital in the Town of Bhachhau which served up to 72 surrounding villages. This hospital consisted of 100 beds with areas partitioned for X-Ray, pathology, operating theatre, medical stock room and an outpatient dept. Over 19,000 outpatients were treated and 2500 operations (including amputations) were performed in the six month period that the hospital was operating. Volunteer Doctors, Nurses and Health Counsellors from the UK went to help the victims, in particular the very young to help them get over the trauma.
  • Sewa International (UK) has partly funded the rebuilding of 6 villages in the earthquake areas of Gujarat. The villages of Mitha Pasvaria, Chapredi, Sayan, Rapar, Badanpur and Rampura have been adopted by Sewa International (UK). Each village has been built with earthquake proof houses, a primary school, surgery/health centre, a community centre, shops, water storage tank, electricity and gas cabling, a library, roads, police station, together with the total communication infrastructure and other modern amenities.
  • In addition funds from Sewa International (UK) have been used to build 253 Bunga Houses (Traditional Kutch Houses) in villages around the Kutch region
  • Sewa International (UK) have also funded the rebuilding of over 35 Schools, which have been built in various villages including Surajkardi, Meghpar, Ramgadh, Krisnapur, Chamaraj, Tirthgam, Madhapar, Bita Valadia Athamana, Katuda, Bajarangpura, Koddha, Nattharkui, Kalavad, Bagthana, Kunad, Timbdi, Krishnanagar, Hadiyana, Bhatiya, Mandvi, Bhachu, Chanasma, Chakarkotda, Ratnal, Adipur, Antarjal, Gadpadar, Radhanpur, Thara, Saijpur and Bhuj.
  • Sewa International (UK) has also funded 2 Mobile Medical Vehicles & Dispensaries which are used to provide medical assistance to over 50 affected villages, dispensing medicine and providing general medical help in villages that do not have a Health Centre or a Doctor’s Surgery. These Mobile Medical Vehicles/Dispensaries are fully equipped with essential medical equipment together with a Doctor.
