AFAN Student Pilgrims interviewed in Birmingham

This is a video of some of the AFAN student walkers on the annual Inter-Faith Week Pilgrimage being interviewed by Kirsty Wark of BBC Newsnight. The walk was from Lichfield to Worcester, over a five-day period, and the main student involvement was on the third day, with a walk round Birmingham and visits to various places of worship, including the Handsworth Mosque, Birmingham Cathedral, the Buddhist Pagoda, and the Handsworth Gurdwara. A group of over 30 students, mainly from Walsall and Wolverhampton FE colleges braved wind and rain to do the walk, and were welcomed to the Annual Conference of the Association of Colleges at the Birmingham International Conference Centre, in front of an audience of over 1000 principals and senior managers from colleges across the country.

A small group of the students were interviewed on the main stage by Kirsty Wark, answering questions on where they were visiting, how they got involved and how they felt about the walk. Afterwards, a metalwork sculpture made by Engineering students, with carved symbols of the different faiths which comprise the multi-faith chaplaincy at Wolverhampton College, was presented to the Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, Martin Doel, by Rebecca Duroe from the college

Pictures of the presentation, and of views of the full walk, which took five days including overnight stays at the Birmingham Buddhist Pagoda and the Franciscan Monastery at Glasshampton near Kidderminster, are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/allfaithsandnone/sets/72157625336606553/ and will soon be on the AFAN blog. For the video, click on:
