What is Islam? Who are Muslims? Simple questions, difficult answer!

Tansu Ciller? Malcolm X? Zinedine Zidane? Cat Stevens? Gamal Abdel-Nasser?  Shirin Ebadi?....

Maybe it would be easier to let the Qur’an speak for itself – a source which all followers of Islam would agree on

Say: We believe in God and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and his sons, and that which was given to Moses and Jesus and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between them, and unto Him we have surrendered.”
(Quran 3:83-84)

So, in a (tiny, simplistic) nutshell… a Muslim believes in One God (Allah), Angels, His Prophets (a few of which are mentioned above), Revealed Books (which, by the way include the Torah & the Bible), a Day of Judgement when (s)he will be resurrected & rewarded or punished; and the really tricky concept of Predestination in partnership with free will. In preparation for this Day, a Muslim will strive their utmost to emulate the Prophet Muhammad pbuh in doing good & pro-actively preventing evil by, amongst other things, striving to eradicate fear, hate, disease, immorality, poverty and injustice. A Muslim hopes to be instrumental in spreading understanding, peace, love, charity and harmony.
