Basma Elshayyal

History

Profile: Basma Elshayyal currently works as Head of RE at a Secondary school in North West London and has been a secondary school teacher for the last ten years. She is originally Egyptian, but spent most of her formative years in Edinburgh and has travelled extensively. Originally an RE graduate with a Masters in Translation & Islamic Studies, her main interests are interfaith work (especially in relation to youth ), education – both mainstream and Islamic, Muslims in Europe and women. Currently on the editorial board of the International Journal of Religious Education, other activities include conference participation & lecturing, writing, travel, voluntary youth work and of course being a full-time mum.... She has two daughters and a wonderful extended family that makes everything worthwhile!
